How To Tie The Perfect Gift Bow

How To Tie The Perfect Bow

It's gift giving season! For some, wrapping gifts is the best part. While for others it's a nightmare. The trickiest bit of wrapping a gift isn't the paper, it's the bow on top. Avoiding the criss-cross of ribbon on the back so the gift sits flat, and achieving a 'bunny ears' bow that falls away from the gift when the ribbon is pulled is tricky–if you don't know this technique.

We'll show you how to tie the perfect bow, every single time. A bow that sits pretty with perfect proportions no matter what you're wrapping. If you want to try it for yourself, we'll show you how to tie the perfect gift bow. Can't get the hang of it? We love gift wrapping at OMCH so if you can't get the bow just right or hate gift wrapping altogether, we'll happily wrap your jewellery gifts for you.

How To Tie The Perfect Bow

You'll need a length of double-sided ribbon that can be comfortably wrapped around the gift box three times. Start by holding the ribbon in place with your left thumb. You want a few inches of ribbon spare on the left side, which you'll use to tie the bow later on.

Wrap the other end of the ribbon around the box sideways, from left to right. Take it around the right side, wrapping it behind the box to meet the ribbon on the left side that you're holding in place with your thumb.

Continue to bring the ribbon up, diagonally from the left side of the box to the top, and over; wrapping it around the back of the box from top to bottom. If it's easier, hold both pieces of ribbon in place with your thumb to stop it slipping.

Loop the ribbon underneath all the other pieces by bringing the ribbon up to the top left corner of the gift box, and under the other pieces of ribbon diagonally.

From here you can tie a bow with the two ribbon ends. Adjust the ribbons so they cross in the center of the box first, and tie a bow. Your gift is now wrapped and ready for gifting!
